FAQs

What is ABA?

ABA therapy is a behavioral therapy that uses evidence-based practices to help people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a highly detailed, and individualized program, and no two treatment plans are ever the same. This is because the needs of each learner are tremendously different from on another. ABA ensured that evidence-based practices are specialized to the needs and priorities of the learner and family.

What does ABA Therapy look like?

ABA therapy can help people improve their social interactions, learn new skills, increase positive behaviors, and lessen challenging behaviors. Examples of life skills taught in ABA therapy include potty training, self-care, routine adherence, basic chores, and initiating conversations.

ABA therapy is highly individualized and looks different for every person and practitioner. Our BCBAs evaluate the individual’s needs, skills, preferences, and interests to create goals and an intervention plan.

ABA therapy is most commonly associated with treating children with autism, but it can also be used to treat people with ADHD, traumatic brain injury, dementia, and other developmental issues. Although ABA can be used as a practice for other diagnoses just as successfully, insurance mandates typically require an Autism diagnosis to receive ABA therapy through an individual’s or family’s insurance plan.

Of course! Each child will always be with a trained Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) every day, who is routinely supervised by our BCBAs, who oversee all treatment programming changes throughout a learner’s time with us.

How are parents involved?

Parsimony ABA prioritizes all stakeholder involvement into the learners therapy each week. Because of this, family involvement is a requirement for us. We want to ensure that that successes we see during therapy translate to every day life, and that parents and caregivers are equipped with all the tools and information needed to continue to support learning opportunities for their children.
